President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with primates of Orthodox churches of Ukraine and officially made an appeal for transmission to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on granting the Ukrainian Church of the Tomos of autocephaly with the signatures of all the bishops supported this decision.
About it reports a press-service of the head of state on April 18.
In particular, it is noted that the relevant documents handed over by the Primate of the UOC-KP Patriarch Filaret and the head of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Macarius.
About the meeting with the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onuphrius thepress service of the President reported that Poroshenko said Onufry on his visit to Istanbul to meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the members of the Synod, devoted to the prospects of granting of the Tomos on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
According to Poroshenko, “his Holiness expressed His concern about all the citizens of Ukraine and support our country in repelling the aggression.”
The press service of the President does not cite the position of Primate of the UOC-MP, noting that the parties “exchanged views on enhancing inter-faith dialogue in Ukraine”.
17 APR Poroshenko gathered in the presidential Administration, chairmen of parliamentary factions and said that he would appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with a request to issue a Tomos regarding the Ukrainian Autocephalous local Church. He also showed the deputies an appeal Filaret with the signatures of other Metropolitan bishops of the UOC-KP.
On the same day in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate agreed to the establishment of its own Autocephalous national Church, but to the canonical basis.
In particular, Deputy Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich expressed the opinion that “all secondable zilch, as it had many times before”.
Tomos is a decree, Encyclical Epistle of the Primate of the local Orthodox Church in some important matters of Church order. By granting of the Tomos of some of the “parent” (Kirikkale) Church officially proclaimed autonomy in the management or autocephaly.
